THE ‘SNAKE IS READY TO STRIKE…LEGENDARY ROCK OUTFIT WHITESNAKE TO RELEASE BRAND NEW ALBUM WORLDWIDE VIA FRONTIERS RECORDS

“FOREVERMORE” DUE OUT MARCH 29TH IN NORTH AMERICA

(New York, NY) – It’s time to get charmed again…legendary rock outfit Whitesnake is set to release their 11th studio album, FOREVERMORE, the band’s first in more than two years. Due out on March 29th in North America, FOREVERMORE finds founder/singer/songwriter David Coverdale and company returning to their no-holds-barred, bluesiest, sexiest rock n’ roll roots. This will be Whitesnake’s first release via the Italian-based Frontiers Records label.

FOREVERMORE was recorded, produced and mixed by Los Bros Brutalos (Coverdale, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre) at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA. With FOREVERMORE, Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Briian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass. As with all Whitesnake’s albums, Coverdale (aided so capably by Aldrich) unleashes his incomparable vocal chops with emotional fervour. Please see below for the complete FOREVERMORE track listing.

The first single from FOREVERMORE, “Love Will Set You Free” will impact at radio on February 8th and will be available for sale digitally on February 15th. The FOREVERMORE album will be available in the US on March 29th. Whitesnake will hit the road in North American this May in support of FOREVERMORE. Tour dates to be announced shortly.

Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock n’ roll bands. Coverdale’s blues roots, combined with a feral sense of rockin’ and rollin’, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound along with Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship. Whitesnake’s ascent to the very top of the rock n’ roll heap was confirmed with 1987′s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two massive Top 10 hits, two #1 singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world.

Whitesnake is: David Coverdale (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), Reb Beach (guitars), Michael Devin (bass) and Brian Tichy (drums).

Kevin DuBrow (1955 – 2007)

Three years ago today, Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow passed away in his Las Vegas home, he was 52 years old. I got into Quiet Riot back in 1983,  just like most fans did, when they released their groundbreaking METAL HEALTH album. I heard them on the radio and watched the band’s videos on MTV, the band was at the top of the charts and Kevin was the face (and mouth!) of the band. Unfortunately, the band’s career slipped as the years went on but some of my favorite music and memories of Kevin DuBrow and Quiet Riot came in the mid-90s through 2006 when the band was re-establishing itself and eventually reunited the classic lineup. My friends and I tried to catch every local concert the band put on and we were always treated to a great show. Thanks for the music and memories Kevin, rest in peace…..

Eric Carr (1950-1991)

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 19 years since Eric Carr passed away from complications due to heart cancer. I will never forget watching MTV that day trying to find out news on the death of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and, in the same news segment, MTV reported on Eric’s death. I was upset about Mercury’s death but Eric was an important member of my favorite band…..KISS. I couldn’t even begin to think of how the band would continue without Eric and I truly thought it was the end of KISS. I grew up with the tail end of the makeup era and the non-makeup era and Eric Carr was an important part of that time in KISS’ career. The music he made will live on and I will never forget seeing him perform live in 1987 on the Crazy Nights tour…..thanks for the memories Eric! Rest in peace…..

Freddie Mercury (1946-1991)

Today marks 19 years since the death of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest Rock singers of all time. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 19 years since his passing but the music Freddie created with Queen and as a solo artist will live on forever. Queen will always be one of my favorite bands and Freddie one of my favorite singers. Rest in peace…..

IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCE RELEASE DATE, ARTWORK
AND TRACKLISTING FOR NEW ALBUM ‘THE FINAL FRONTIER’
TOUR STARTS THIS WEEK

The release date for IRON MAIDEN’S highly anticipated new studio album, THE FINAL FRONTIER, is now confirmed for Tuesday August 17, in the U.S.  The new album artwork has just been unveiled on their website www.ironmaiden.com  and was illustrated by Melvyn Grant. To mark the occasion, the band has made special arrangements for one new album track, “EL DORADO,” to be made available worldwide as a Free MP3 digital download file with immediate effect via their website, www.ironmaiden.com.

Singer Bruce Dickinson explains, “‘El Dorado’ is a preview of the forthcoming studio album. As we will be including it in the set of our Final Frontier World Tour, (which opens in Dallas on June 9; see full schedule dates below), we thought it would be great to thank all our fans and get them into The Final Frontier mood by giving them this song up front of the tour and album release.”

The band reunited with longtime Maiden producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in early 2010 at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, to record the album and then moved to L.A. to finish the recording and do the mixing. Compass Point Studio is very familiar to the band; it was where they recorded the Piece Of Mind (’83), Powerslave (’84) and Somewhere In Time (’86) albums.

Dickinson comments, “The studio had the same vibe and it was exactly as it had been in 1983, nothing had changed! Even down to the broken shutter in the corner…same carpet….everything. It was really quite spooky.  But we felt very relaxed in such a familiar and well-trodden environment and I think this shows in the playing and the atmosphere of the album.”

Thirty years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, The Final Frontier will be Maiden’s 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totaling over 80 million album sales during this period.

The full track listing for the album (total running time 76:35) is:

The Final Frontier World Tour begins in Dallas on June 9, with 25 shows in major cities across the USA and Canada, playing to an expected 350,000 fans or more. Following this, the tour will shift over to Europe starting in Dublin, on July 30, to play a few selected major festivals and stadiums, finishing in Valencia, Spain, on August 21, and including a concert in Transylvania.

Says bass player and founding member Steve Harris, “We’re hugely excited about this tour. I think the fans will really like the brand new stage production and lights and we will also be debuting one of the new album tracks, ‘El Dorado’. Our Texan fans will be the very first people anywhere to hear it live, so it will be interesting to see their reaction and how it goes down with the crowd on the night! Eddie has changed a bit for this tour but is possibly the most outrageous one to date…I can’t say too much about him as I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I guarantee he will scare the hell out of you!”

From Blabbermouth.net:

According to the Des Moines Register, Urbandale, Iowa police are investigating the death of SLIPKNOT’s bass guitarist at a local hotel.

Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites (pictured below), 8800 Northpark Drive, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said.

According to KCCI.com, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting in the death investigation and will perform an autopsy on Tuesday. Toxicology testing will be completed to determine if there were any contributing factors in the death of Gray, police said.

Witnesses reported that items from the hotel room were carried out of the hotel around 2 p.m.

Gray was born in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to Des Moines.

Wikipedia shows that Gray has been married for two years to GodsGirls’ Brenna Paul and has a tattoo of her name on his knuckles.

In a December 2009 posting on his MySpace page, Gray revealed that his wife was pregnant with the couple’s first child. “I am the happiest man on the face of the earth — literally!” he wrote. He added, “This has been the best Christmas I have ever had!”

In April 2010 it was announced that Paul Gray had joined HAIL!, the supergroup featuring mainstays Tim “Ripper” Owens (BEYOND FEAR, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH), David Ellefson (MEGADETH) and Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA). He was replacing the group’s original member, David Ellefson, who was unable to take part in HAIL!’s upcoming touring activities due to his renewed collaboration with MEGADETH. At the time, Paul Gray stated about his involvement with HAIL!: “This is going to be amazing! After I heard the news about David reuniting with MEGADETH I touched base with Andreas and everything fell into place pretty immediately. I was excited about what they were doing and their whole attitude is just cool, old school camaraderie and fun and I wanted to share that with them. Fortunately, I had this window of time available as SLIPKNOT are on break so the timing worked perfectly. These guys have been through it all and they represent true metal brotherhood. I like that and I’m glad to now be a part of it. I can’t wait, I wish we’d leave tomorrow. These shows are going to kick ass!”

Back in 2003, authorities agreed to drop drug possession charges against Paul Gray in exchange for Gray’s acknowledgement that he was on drugs when he was involved in a minor traffic accident (Story#1, Story#2) in the summer of 2003 in Des Moines.

Des Moines police arrested Gray on June 1, 2003 after his car collided with a car at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Carpenter Avenue.

A police report at the time said Gray “had impaired balance, slurred and dull speech, and extremely sleepy and dull behavior.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Frontiers Records to release “Dio”, JORN’s offer to the musical legacy of the great singer

Napoli, May 2010 – The Norse God of Metal. The leader of the renaissance of classic Hard Rock on its highest level. One of the most prolific and sought-after singers of today, whose vocal talent has reserved him a place amongst the greatest giants in the history of Rock. This is Jorn Lande and now he offers his talents to honour the musical legacy of Ronnie James Dio, with his new album aptly entitled “Dio”, to be released on Frontiers Records on July 2nd in Europe and July 27th in the US.

Handpicking some lesser known tunes of the Dio era, along with some of the true classics, Jorn offers a fine collection of songs that present the music of the Man and the Artist, with a unique twist. In Jorn Lande’s own words: “Throughout the years I have had the privilege of  both meeting and working with many of the musicians that have inspired me on my musical journey. Ronnie James Dio has inspired me through decades, and this man’s influence continues to add colour to my creative spirit. Ever since the first time I heard his royal roar back in the 70′s, I have been fascinated by this extremely talented man’s creative force and dedication to music. His career has been going on for so long and includes so many great songs, that it was a challenge to decide which songs and what era to focus on. I ended up focusing on the DIO era”.

The album also includes an original song for which a videoclip, shot by Thomas Tjader (Pretty Maids, In Flames) was produced. Jorn says “I wrote ‘Song for Ronnie James’ as a tribute and a personal thanks to the man who has been my mentor for more than 35 years. This great man has affected my life and career in such a way that without his presence, I would not have become the artist I am today”.

The Song for Ronnie James videoclip can be watched on Youtube following this link:

Either as front man in German metal act Masterplan, which has achieved great success around the world, or as guest in  spectacular projects such as Tobias Sammet’s “Avantasia”, or in the Allen / Lande’s releases, Jorn  Lande is today a trademark for quality Hard Rock music. “Dio” is the new chapter in Jorn’s history and a sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to a great and influential Artist.

Dio” was mixed by Tommy Hansen, Jailhouse Studios, and the final tracklisting includes the following tracks: Song For Ronnie James; Invisible; Shame on the Night; Push; Stand Up And Shout; Don’t Talk to Strangers; Lord Of The Last Day; Night People; Sacred Heart; Sunset Superman; Lonely Is The Word / Letters From Earth (2010 version); Kill The King*; Straight Through The Heart (live). Song for Ronnie James (videoclip)

From Geezer Butler.com:

IN RESPONSE TO THE MANY REQUESTS FOR A STATEMENT HERE GOES:

It’s impossible to express in mere words the relationship Ronnie and I, Wendy and my wife Gloria had. He was much more than a friend, fellow musician, band mate. If I have a soul, then he is part of it. I truly believe God, fate, destiny, whatever it’s called, brought us together again in 2006, after not seeing each other for 14 years, to do one final tour, which turned into 3 major tours and an album. We were having a blast together, enjoying each other’s company more than we had ever done before, talking about maybe doing one more album, when fate intervened again. We were planning on doing a 2 or 3 part North American tour, after having toured South America and Europe in Spring /Summer 2009, but on the first leg of the North American tour, Tony’s hand ligaments were in a bad way, Vinny’s shoulder became dislocated, and Ronnie was having terrible stomach pains. We decided to cut the tour, get healthy, and carry on the following year. Tony and Vinny had successful procedures to fix their ailments, but Ronnie’s stomach pains were worsening. I saw him at the Dio Halloween party, but he wasn’t drinking, unusual for Ronnie who liked his tipple. He was telling me he had made an appointment with a specialist, to see what it was…..

Wednesday, 12th May 2010.

Wendy invited Gloria and I to lunch in Santa Barbara. A few close friends of Ronnie and Wendy, Omar, Simon, Paul, Tim, and Diana, had dropped by. Ronnie had no appetite whatsoever- the disease and the chemotherapy were taking an immense toll. As usual, we talked sports and had a laugh together- it would be the last time. That night, I had a beautiful email from him, that I will treasure forever. I sent him an email saying I’d see him during the following week.

Friday, 14th May 2010.

Wendy called to say she had taken Ronnie to hospital. The pain had become unbearable. We got to the hospital around 2 p.m. The doctor eventually sedated him. More and more friends were coming to visit- we took it in turns to hold Ronnie’s hand, and whisper our thoughts to him. Wendy wouldn’t leave his side- she stayed curled up on his bed the whole night. Gloria’s assistant, Debi, kept her company. I emailed Tony to prepare him for bad news.

Saturday, 15th May 2010.

There was no mistaking Ronnie’s room. There were around 25 to 30 friends outside his room. We knew the end was imminent. We all wanted to say our goodbyes. It was a day filled with tears and reflection. In the evening, the chaplain came, and we all gathered around Ronnie’s bed and prayed. Ronnie wasn’t going easily. At 11 p.m., most of us left, leaving Wendy her privacy to say her last farewell. The devastation was palpable.

Sunday, 16th May 2010.

7.46 a.m. As we were preparing to leave for the hospital, Gloria called Wendy to see if she wanted a coffee or any breakfast- she broke the sad news. Ronnie had just passed away.

Wendy Dio has been a true saint through all this. She has been with Ronnie every step of the way. Her courage has amazed us all. Even as I write, she is ensuring Ronnie has the finest send off possible. God bless you, Wendel.

Most people who were there for those last days chose to keep their thoughts private. I wanted to keep my thoughts private, too, but I’ve been overwhelmed by emails, and requests from the media and fans for comments.

I can truly say I’ve never known anyone to have such loyal, loving friends, fans, and family as Ronnie. He really was a special person, blessed with a unique voice and presence. He loved his fans- he would stay meeting and talking to them until the early hours of the morning. One of my fondest memories of him comes from last year, at the Sonisphere Festival,Knebworth. He noticed my sister and her husband at the side of the stage. During our opening song, he took the time to go over and hug them. Just a little thing like that made him special to me. Of course his music will live on forever, as will his influence. I have never seen so many tributes from so many musicians and fans, so many good wishes, no cynicism, just pure love and appreciation for a great man.

God bless you Ronald – thank you so much for the wonderful memories.

Love ya,
Geez

R.I.P. – Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010)

Ronnie James Dio passed away this morning at 7:45am after battling stomach cancer for the last 6 months…..he was 67 years old. Ronnie’s wife & manager Wendy Dio updated the Dio website with the following:

“Today (May 16th) my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

You can leave your condolences on Facebook.
———————————————————————————-

This is a very sad day for me because I am a huge Dio fan and I love all of his music. Cancer is a horrible disease, one that has touched more than a few in my family, so I can’t even imagine what Wendy Dio and Ronnie’s family are dealing with right now. When I read the news that RJD had stomach cancer last year, I was shocked, not because RJD had cancer but because one of my heroes had cancer. Musicians, athletes, actors, whatever type of celebrity…..the fans put these people on pedastals and they seem almost superhuman but they are people like the rest of us. It’s a sad day for the Heavy Metal world because we lost an icon and a supreme talent but we also lost a man who respected his family, friends and fans and seemed like a good guy. I will miss Ronnie James Dio because his music has meant a lot to me in my 30 years of being a Metal fan but it is with that music that Ronnie will live on. My deepest condolences go out to Wendy Dio and to Ronnie’s family, friends and fans. Rest In Peace Ronnie…..

Long live Rock ‘n’ Roll…..long live Ronnie James Dio!

NADER SADEK TO ENTER THE STUDIO IN EARLY MAY TO BEGIN RECORDINGS OF HIS UPCOMING DEBUT ALBUM.

The innovative and controversial artist is set to produce a collaborative album, which will feature world-renowned extreme metal artists Steve Tucker, Flo Mounier, and Rune Eriksen.

New York, NY – Egyptian-born artist Nader Sadek will soon enter the studio to begin working on his next project: a full-length LP. The upcoming album will feature compositions and performances by some of extreme music’s most innovative players. The group will consist of Steve Tucker (formerly of Morbid Angel) on vocals, Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) on drums, and Rune Eriksen (Aura Noir, Ava Inferi and formerly of Mayhem) on guitars. Guest musicians will be announced soon. Sadek himself will play on and develop all album artwork and concepts. The project represents a continuation of the work showcased on his art installation “Ageless,” which took place last November at New York’s Santos Party House and consisted of a live Death Metal performance enshrined in Sadek’s nightmarish stage landscape. Some of the songs performed during the installation, will be featured in the upcoming release. The album will be produced by Sadek, recorded and mixed by Steve Tucker, and mastered by Colin Marston (Krallice, Gorguts, Jarboe). The recording will take place in Brooklyn, New York and will be released in the fall on Greyhaze Records.

ABOUT NADER SADEK
Through his association with Attila Csihar (SUNN O))), Mayhem), Sadek gained considerable exposure as the artist responsible for the stage imagery on Mayhem’s 2009 US tour. The stage sets featured silicone-based sculptures, which resembled entrails and impaled heads, with the centerpiece being a fully detailed flesh-like rendering of the Mayhem logo. Sadek’s work has also included the costumes and silicone “earth masks” worn by Csihar on all his bands. Sadek’s use of petroleum-based raw materials is not coincidental. His work revolves around the notion that all petroleum energy originates from death and, in a morbid vicious cycle, also ends in death, where human lives are expendable and sold for the support of an unending addiction to money and power. Before his work with Mayhem, Sadek had implemented two very successful interconnecting art projects: “B’Doun Wag’h,” a live performance event; and “Faceless,” a drawing exhibit featuring recorded music.

Says Sadek: “My general association with Death Metal, deals with the notion of false perceptions, and how great individuality can be smothered by the weight of an overwhelming environment. This idea is ever-present throughout all my work. Each of the players in this album played key roles in their respective bands, facing difficult challenges, and yet taking their bands to higher levels. Their talent as well as their tenacity has always intrigued me. As such, they fit perfectly in this project.”

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
Steve Tucker is known for his long run fronting the seminal Florida Death Metal Band Morbid Angel. He has collaborated with Sadek on many of his previous projects. Flo Mounier is the driving force behind Canadian Death Metal outfit Cryptopsy.  He is considered one of the best drummers the genre has ever produced. Rune Eriksen is currently working with Ava Inferi, which is based in Lisbon, Portugal.  He is also well known for his distinctive guitar work in Mayhem, notably on their last album, the award-winning “Ordo Ad Chao.”

Says Tucker: “I’ve been looking forward to doing this recording for months. Nader does some very interesting art and I enjoy helping him achieve his twisted vision. It’s rare to get to play alongside a drummer with the abilities that Flo possesses. It’s a bonus that I get the opportunity to jam with professionals such as Rune and Flo. It’ll be brutal.”

Says Mounier: “It’s amazing that artists with different backgrounds can come together to create something so extreme and so dark but yet have so much fun doing so! It has been a pleasure working with Nader and Steve in the past and I’m looking forward to experimenting with Rune’s unique style, I can’t wait to start laying down the extreme with my boys.”

Says Eriksen: “When first being approached by Nader to collaborate with him, Steve and Flo, I was immediately caught up by the idea of it. Not only is Nader’s concept and reasons for doing this of an inspirational character in itself, but also the very thought of collaborating with musicians such as Steve and Flo seemed like an opportunity not to miss.”
