MULTI-PLATINUM ROCK BAND WHITESNAKE TO RELEASE NEW DVD/LIVE CD PACKAGE: “MADE IN JAPAN” DUE OUT APRIL 23RD IN NORTH AMERICA VIA FRONTIERS RECORDS

Whitesnake - Made In Japan (2013) Whitesnake - Made In Japan (2013) DVD & Blu-Ray

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of legendary rock band Whitesnake’s new DVD/live CD package, MADE IN JAPAN. MADE IN JAPAN is set for release on April 23rd in North America and will be available in several formats: a deluxe 2CD/DVD edition, Blu-ray and a standalone DVD. The performance footage is shot in stunning HD in 5.1 and stereo and is taken from Whitesnake’s co-headlining set at the “Loud Park” festival on October 11th, 2011 held at Saitama Super Arena in Japan during their “Forevermore World Tour.” The performance was initially recorded only for Japanese TV and future Loud Park promotions, but after three songs were broadcasted on a Loud Park highlights program in Japan, Whitesnake received unprecedented requests for this performance to be made available to the general public.

MADE IN JAPAN contains songs from Whitesnake’s most recent studio album, FOREVERMORE, as well as classic hits such as “Is This Love,” “Still Of The Night” and “Here I Go Again.” The bonus CD also includes never-before-heard outtakes and acoustic versions of material from the award-winning FOREVERMORE album that were recorded during soundchecks on the 2011 Japanese tour. Additional DVD content includes various band photo slideshows and fan-shot videos. Please see below for the full content listing.

Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary David Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock bands. Coverdale’s blues roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound along with Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship. Whitesnake’s ascent to the very top of the rock n’ roll heap was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two massive Top 10 hits, two #1 singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world. David Coverdale was recently named one of Revolver’s “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” and the UK’s Kerrang voted Coverdale the “Last Great Rock Star.” Musicians on MADE IN JAPAN include David Coverdale (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), Reb Beach (guitars), Michael Devin (bass), Briian Tichy (drums) and special guest Brian Ruedy (keyboards).

R.I.P. — Jon Lord (1941-2012)

R.I.P. — John Lord (June 9, 1941 – July 16, 2012)

From Jon Lord.org:

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday 16th July at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family.

Jon Lord, the legendary keyboard player with Deep Purple co-wrote many of the bands legendary songs including Smoke On The Water and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career.

Best known for his Orchestral work Concerto for Group & Orchestra first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 and conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold, a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.

Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002.

Jon passes from Darkness to Light.

Jon Lord  (9 June 1941 – 16 July 2012)

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Another sad day for the world of Hard Rock & Heavy Metal, and the Music world in general, because Jon Lord passed away today at age 71. Aside from helping found the mighty Deep Purple, Jon has been world-reknowned in his solo work including various concertos and orchestrations. Jon will always be remembered as the man behind the Hammond organ in Deep Purple and as a tremendous player and writer. Jon influenced thousands of keyboard players and pianists the world over and helped create some of the timeless Rock songs ever. Unfortunately, I never got to see Jon play live because I saw Deep Purple in concert twice after he retired in 2002. I was hoping his involvement in the Who Cares project with Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) and Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) would re-ignite some Rock fires he may have had burning but that is not to be. Jon leaves us a rich legacy of music and many memories…..listen to the keyboard solo on ‘Burn’ and tell me he’s not the best Rock keyboard/organ player of all time! Looking at my collection, I own most of the Deep Purple catalog and I will be playing more than a few songs from various lineups of the band later tonight. Another hero gone too soon.

Sincere condolences go out to Jon’s family, friends, bandmates and fans…..rest in peace.

R.I.P. — Mark Reale (1955-2012)

R.I.P. – Mark Reale (June 7, 1955 – January 25, 2012)

From Bravewords.com:

Yesterday (Wednesday, January 25th), RIOT guitarist and founder Mark Reale passed away due to complications stemming from Crohn’s disease in a San Antonio hospital. He was 56 year old. Reale had been in a coma since January 11th due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He had battled Crohn’s for most of his life, working and performing while enduring almost constant pain and the side effects of treatment for his illness. He was in Texas bravely attempting to practice for the band’s scheduled shows, but was felled by a severe onset of Crohn’s symptoms, which eventually put him in the Intensive Care Unit.

A statement at his official website reads as follows:

“Our brother Mark Reale went home to be with our Lord this day January 25th, 2012 after a long battle and complications from Crohns disease. He is survived by his father Anthony Reale and was precede in death by his mother Frances Reale. Mark was born June 7th, 1955 in Brooklyn New York at a time when rock and roll was flourishing with many new sounds. Early in his life, his first interest had been the movies. ever so curiously, he had shown an interest in films. But then, songs he heard on the radio began to change that. He quickly began to love music from THE BEATLES and CREAM. Mark lists GEORGE HARRISON and ERIC CLAPTON as great influences. When he was seven years old his grandfather bought him his first basic guitar to practice on and later his father bought him a new guitar and amp, his passion had begun.

In the early to mid ’70’s his influences included the likes of EDGAR WINTER, RONNIE MONTROSE and RICK DERRINGER. He also loved a range of bands and artists from AL DI MEOLA to DEEP PURPLE. In 1975 Mark formed his band Riot, then at a block party Mark’s father found vocalist Guy Speranza. Mark’s guitar style and his passion for writing songs that told stories that were so deep and moving had made a real connection with those who would become life long fans. The fans felt so connected to Mark because the lyrics in Riot’s songs were extremely close to the stories of their own lives. His song writing style could weave tales of anything from old lore to battle fields and warriors, personal loss and triumph. And heavy metal anthems that will be with us for decades to come.

The brethren of brothers that Mark spent his life long career in music with and whom he leaves behind or joins in heaven are, Guy Speranza, L.A. Kouvaris, Kip Leming, Peter Bitelli, Rhett Forrester, Rick Ventura, Jimmy Iommi, Sandy Slavin, Tony Moore, Don Van Stavern, Mike Flyntz, Pete Perez, Bobby Jarzombek, Mike Dimeo, John Macaluso, Bobby Rondinelli, Mike Tirelli, Frank Gilchriest and Damon Di Bari who was always like the “6th” member of the band being Riot’s lighting director / production manager / tour manager and Mark’s personal assistant. Mark’s final days were spent with Damon at his hospital bedside, sharing the fans thoughts, well wishes and prayers. Even though Mark began his career in New York, San Antonio was a special place he loved and not only lived here for a while but had planned on moving back here to make San Antonio his permanent home.

With heart felt thanks to the fans around the world, the United States, Japan, Europe and all points in between. The Riot army meant everything in the world to Mark., it’s what kept him going. The loyalty and love of the fans fueled his passion and desire to continue making music for as long as possible.

Please keep the Mighty Tior in your hearts and the memory of Mark alive within you.

Shine on, Mark shine on!”

——————————————————————————————————————————————–

It’s a very sad day for me here at Heavy Metal Addiction because I am a huge Riot fan and Mark Reale is one of my favorite guitar players. I knew that Mark suffered from severe Crohn’s disease for years, and I had been following Mark’s recent hospitalization due to Crohn’s complications because Riot was scheduled to tour the U.S. and the band had been rehearsing in Texas with Mark. When I read the news early this morning, I was shocked to find out Mark had passed…..it’s always a shock when one of your heroes passes, they seem so indestructible. Mark’s music, whether it be in Riot or Westworld, has been some of my favorite Heavy Metal and Hard Rock in the last 30 years, he was a criminally underrated guitarist, very influential and a great talent…..the music world has lost another great musician. Albums like Riot’s FIRE DOWN UNDER and RESTLESS BREED, and Westworld’s debut album, are some of my favorite all-time albums and are worth seeking out if you are a true Metal fan.

Sincere condolences go out to Mark’s family, friends, bandmates and fans…..shine on and rest in peace.

Press Release: UFO – The Chrysalis Years (1973-1979) box set to be released 9/13/11 on Capitol/EMI

From Capitol/EMI Records:

UFO – THE CHRYSALIS YEARS (1973-1979) TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 13, 2011 BY CAPITOL/ EMI

5CD and Digital Collection Includes Five Studio Albums, Plus a Previously Unreleased Concert Recording, BBC Radio Sessions, Singles, B-sides, and Rare Remixes

On September 13, Capitol/EMI will release an expansive 5CD and digital collection spanning UFO’s Chrysalis Records tenure.  Across 81 tracks, UFO’s The Chrysalis Years (1973-1979) collects all of the songs the band recorded for Chrysalis during the 1970s.

UFO’s musical odyssey started in 1969, when singer Phil Mogg was joined by drummer Andy Parker and bassist Pete Way. This trio would become the backbone of the band for the next 13 years, and mainstays for much of UFO’s forty-plus year career.

The Chrysalis Years (1973-1979) chronologically charts UFO’s career, from the obscure 1973 German singleGive Her The Gun” to 1979’s hit single version of “Doctor Doctor,” backed with its live B-side, “On With The Action” (available on CD for the first time). Collecting all five studio albums to feature wunderkind guitar virtuoso Michael Schenker, who was only 18 when he originally joined the band for 1974’s Phenomenon, this anthology also includes, in their entirety, Force It (1975), No Heavy Petting (1976), Lights Out (1977) and Obsession (1978).  In addition to BBC Radio sessions recorded for Bob Harris and John Peel, single edits and rare remixes, this collection boasts a previously unreleased 45-minute concert recording from UFO’s first U.S. tour.

Recorded in 1974 at Atlanta’s Electric Ballroom, the multi-tracks for this concert were recently discovered in the Chrysalis vaults, and have been given a brand new mix at Abbey Road Studios. Featuring rare live outings of “Give Her The Gun,” the pre-Chrysalis song “Prince Kujuku,” and most interestingly, UFO’s eight-minute interpretation of John Lennon’s “Cold Turkey,” this gig offers unique insight into the early days of this important and influential British rock institution. Completed by the U.K. Top 10 breakthrough double live album, Strangers In the Night, recorded on Michael Schenker’s “farewell” tour, the package also includes liner notes based on a recent interview with UFO vocalist, Phil Mogg.

R.I.P. – Jani Lane (1964-2011)

R.I.P. – Jani Lane (1964-2011)

From Noisecreep:

Jani Lane, the former singer of hard rock band Warrant, has died. He was just 47.

According to TMZ, police found Lane’s body in a room in a Woodland Hills, California Comfort Inn hotel. Right now, no official cause of death has been released.

Lane penned Warrant’s most famous songs including “Cherry Pie,” “Heaven” and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Over the years, Lane and the remaining members of Warrant had a tumultuous relationship. Lane left and rejoined the band several times, most recently reuniting with the original members in 2008. This reunion lasted only a few months and Lane was permanently replaced in Warrant by vocalist Robert Mason. In between his time with Warrant, Lane worked on several solo projects and toured with other 80s metal acts.

In the past, Lane suffered publicly with alcohol addiction and pleaded no contest to DUI in 2010. Lane appeared on VH1s ‘Celebrity Fit Club 2′ in 2005.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Another sad and tragic loss in the Hard Rock community. Unfortunately Jani Lane had his problems with different addictions and it made the later part of his life and career hard at times, especially with his former band Warrant who have replaced him twice for their last two studio album. Back in the day I liked Warrant but, after reading all the controversy and problems in the Internet age, I had a major Warrant backlash especially with Jani Lane. Despite the guy’s issues, dying at age 47 is a sad tragedy that should have never happened. Hopefully, Jani is now at peace. Condolences go out to Jani’s family, friends and fans…..may his memory live on in the music he created.

Official statement from K.K. Downing on his retirement from Judas Priest

From K.K. Downing’s official website:

Dear Friends,

It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am O.K.

There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band’s management for some time.

Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans.

However I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.

All my love and respect,

signature

K.K. Downing retires from Judas Priest!

The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well. Fate also stepped in and delivered the perfect replacement – 31 year-old British guitar player Richie Faulkner (DIRTY DEEDS, VOODOO SIX, LAUREN HARRIS) – he has blended into the band perfectly and is a great talent who is going to set the stage on fire, according to a press release.

The Epitaph Tour will include songs from every Judas Priest studio album and also tracks that they have never before performed on stage plus all the old favourites. Press Release: Black ‘N Blue new album, Hell Yeah!, to be released on Frontiers Records on 5/17/11 in North America. Album artwork, tracklisting revealed.

From Frontiers Records:

It’s BLACK ‘N BLUE time! Hell Yeah ! finally scheduled for release on Frontiers Records!

Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of the new album from Portland-based Rockers BLACK ‘N BLUE on May 13th in Europe and May 17th in North America.

Hell Yeah! is a proud comeback statement for a band that wrote the pages of hard rock history in the 80s. Black ‘N Blue released four successful and critically-acclaimed albums through Geffen Records: their self-titled debut (1984), Without Love (1985), Nasty Nasty (1986), and In Heat (1987), with the latter two albums produced by the legendary GENE SIMMONS of KISS. Catalogue sales in the US were in excess of one million units and the band’s original guitar player Tommy Thayer went on to replace ACE FREHLEY in the current KISS lineup.

Black ‘N Blue reunited for the first time in 2003 under the initiative of singer Jaime St. James, when he began writing tracks for a new album along with original member, Jef “Woop” Warner. The process came to a halt when St. James joined WARRANT as their new lead vocalist in February of 2004. In recent years, Jaime has been releasing records and touring the world with Warrant.

In late 2008, plans to get back into the studio and finish the Hell Yeah! album were underway, as well as festival appearances and other touring.

The band’s line-up is all original except Shawn Sonnenschein“, tells Jaime St. James, “but he has been in the band now for about 8 years. Still the new guy…. Jeez!“.

Black ‘N Blue recently joined the ever-expanding roster of Frontiers Records.

Hell Yeah! goes back to the roots of the “classic” Black ‘N Blue sound, mixing tight and hard rocking songs with a sleazy attitude.

This new album is a real thrill for us and all of the BNB fans” says St. James. “Our last studio recording was in 1988 so it’s a big deal. This is a classic BNB-sounding CD and could be described as a cross between all our previous records. It is heavy for the most part, but I like to think it reminds me of our first album. That’s why we brought back the original logo. We just modernized it“.

Black ‘N Blue will make a special live appearance at the M3 Rock Festival at the Merryweather Post Pavilion in Columbus MD on May 14th. More shows and festivals to be announced.

The new album “Hell Yeah!” will include the following tracks: Monkey; Target; Hail Hail; Fool’s Bleed; C’mon; Jaime’s Got The Beer; Angry Drunk Son Of A Bitch; So Long; Trippin'; Falling Down; Candy; Hell Yeah!; World Goes Round.

Press Release: Stampede to release new album, A Sudden Impulse, on 5/9/2011 on Rock Candy Records

STAMPEDE set to release new studio album: A Sudden Impulse on 5/9/2011

Newly reformed NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) heroes STAMPEDE have announced details of the release of their new album, A Sudden Impulse – the long awaited follow up to their classic 1983 debut studio album Hurricane Town.

Finding a happy and welcoming new home with Rock Candy Record’s spin-off front line label Grind That Axe Records, the band are finally excited to be able to reveal full track listing and artwork for the new album, which is due for release on April 18. Lead singer Reuben Archer comments “Personally I am really excited about the new album and our association with Rock Candy. It’s great to feel part of something that’s happening and more than anything we can’t wait to get out there and play live!”

One of the most respected hard rock acts during the early eighties, the band signed to Polydor Records and released two albums of impressive melodic rock to both critical and commercial acclaim, being compared to earthy British bands such as UFO and Humble Pie.

Following regenerated interest brought about by Rock Candy Records’ reissue of ‘Hurricane Town’ in 2006, song writing partnership Reuben and Laurence Archer decided to reform the band in 2009. Together with original bassist Colin Bond, new drummer Steve Graystone and the addition of a second guitarist in the form of Chris Clowsley, the band have crafted a worthy, if not superlative, long lost follow-up to their studio debut in the opinion of label manager Derek Oliver, who describes the new material as “lean, mean tough-guy hard rock with all the soulful delivery of classic British steel led by Reuben’s instantly identifiable vocal and Laurence’s blistering plank spanking burn outs.”

Reuben strongly believes that welcoming additional elements to Stampede have only served to strengthen the band, making the new material on A Sudden Impulse their most enjoyable studio experience yet. For example, twenty-year-old guitarist Rob Wolverson was invited to add his unique flair to the recordings as a result of Laurence being indisposed for a period because of personal commitments. Explains Reuben: “We could have had several existing name players fill in during this time, but I’d known Rob for years and watched him grow into a real guitar whizz-kid. He’s also a great writer and brought a lot of vibrancy to the project. I just knew he was right for the job.”

Commenting on the end result, Reuben adds: “We have a harder sound now, the melodic hooks are there and I think we have a lot more edge than the first time around – especially due to our new powerhouse drummer Stevie G, and also Chris, whose strong rhythm guitar, vocal and guitar harmonies contribute enormously to the new sound. It has all resulted in making the reincarnation of Stampede an even more exciting project for us.“

A Sudden Impulse is released on Rock Candy Records on May 9, 2011

Live dates scheduled for Spring 2011 TBA.
