Tyr are a great band. I’m inspired by their dedication to the Faeroese language & culture. and – I’m sorry, ‘nationalist’ – this is nothing to do with being ‘Aryan’. I live in England, the descendant of Anglo-Saxon, Irish, Norse and German ancestors. I speak fluent French and Spanish, and I study the Greek and Latin classics. Tyr’s music and songs are an essesntial reminder of the diversity of European and world culture. I am determined to learn some of their Faeroese lyrics to sing at the next folk festival I attend – just as I have learnt French, Spanish, German and Gaelic songs. Vive la difference !

Just to say I’ve also just discovered Tyr, been listening to album since Saturday. Sinklars Vìsa my favourite track followed by Brennivìn and Valkyrjan.

thanks for the review, Land is a welcome addition to Tyr’s collection. I would encourage you to go back and listen to Eric the Red, it is by far my favorite cd, from any band.

Tyr is amazing. Their new album is incredible (finally got it on Monday after a good 4-5 week wait). Sinklars Visa is great…too bad it has to do with the Vikings totally pwning the Scots. As much as I love Vikings, I’m a Scot :P

Good review. I am a big Tyr fan so I am eagerly awaiting this album to arrive in the mail next week!

I want to comment on ‘Hail to the Hammer’. It is indeed a re-recording of the track on ‘How Far to Asgard’, but note that on the debut, Heri was NOT the lead vocalist, Pol Arni Holm was. That original track, along with another track from the debut, ‘God of War’, were also included as bonus tracks on the re-issue of the ‘Eric The Red’ album as well. However, this version of Hail to the Hammer is the first studio version to be released with Heri singing lead and with Terji in the band. So, that is the significance.

I’ve been a fan of Tyr’s when they released Eric The Red a couple years back. I find their style a little different then traditional folk/viking metal bands. In my opinion each album progresses in quality and I am anticipating this release which I have yet to pick up. From your review it sounds like they’ve outdone themselves again.

I caught them on the Canadian leg of Paganfest 2008 and although their set was way too short they put on a great performance. I just recently reviewed “How Far To Asgaard”, “Eric The Red” and “Ragnarok” on my blog if you’re curious.
