This album and Creatures Of The Night are tied in my opinion. I also have to disagree with Metal Mark in the fact that “spit” and “god gave are” both excelent songs. This album is highly underrated. Also with this album KISS’s look is by far my favorite (not including the make-up years) I love the fact that the band looks so extreme and deadly yet they still keep the idea of everyone in the band wearing something along the same lines. I LOVE REVENGE!

I think it got buried under the weight of the Grunge/Alternative era.

Mark – I put Revenge above Animalize, under Creatures, and tied with Lick It Up. I agree it was a return to a harder edge.

Rene – I like all KISS albums, even Hot In The Shade (the worst KISS album IMO). I think the ’80s albums are good but you can hear the difference as the ’80s went on. As they released each album, the sound got more commercial. If I had to rank the non-makeup era, including Creatures, it would be:

Creatures Of The Night
Lick It Up & Revenge (tie)
Animalize
Crazy Nights
Asylum & Carnival Of Souls (tie)
Hot In The Shade

They released so many great albums after LICK IT UP in my opinion. REVENGE is good but all their 80s albums are better METAL MARK!!!!!!!!!!&&&////LOL.

I don’t think it was a cash in on grunge but it was the band getting back to a heavier sound. They were one of the few hard rock bands that avoided being buried by grunge because of the change on this album.
