KISS to tour with Queen + Paul Rodgers in 2007?

From KISS Kollector:

In an interview on the Dudley & Bob morning show, on Austin’s Classic Rock station KLBJ, Gene Simmons stated that KISS will take out Queen + Paul Rodgers on the band’s 2007 tour. Gene said that both bands had talked during VH1’s Rock Honors show and – in true Gene style – in the interview he claims: “Queen is playing with us, we’re not playing with Queen.”

——————————————————

Gene leaked the information early when KISS toured with Aerosmith in 2003, tickets were around $100+ each for decent seats at the Tweeter Center in MA. $100+ for an outdoor seat under a roof…..I paid it…..for two nights!

I saw Queen + Paul Rodgers this past Fall and I paid $100+ for a really close seat at the DCU Center in Worcestor, MA. It was a good show and a fitting tribute to Freddie Mercury, Queen’s music, and Paul Rodgers’ music. It was surprising how well Paul fit in with Roger Taylor and Brian May playing songs that were instantly identifiable with Mr. Mercury.

It’s not surprising that Gene may have gotten the bill together at the VH-1 Rock honors, look at the bands present: Queen, Judas Priest, and Def Leppard. By process of elimination, Queen is the choice. Priest is in the studio and Def Leppard is out with Journey now. KISS could have gone with either band, I think Judas Priest would have given them a run for their money, Def Leppard would be a decent opener.

Queen is a big name. Big name = big money. Big money = Gene happy.

At least we know the next tour is 2007, probably Summer 2007. Now if they could just get Ace Frehley back……

  1. Steve,

the Priest is in the studio and that’s the best piece of news!

Queen and Paul Rodgers wasn’t my cup of tea. Yes, they work well together and the results are much better than I had anticipated, but it just doesn’t do it for me. I saw Queen (with Mercury) too many times. When I saw the “new” Queen, I basically listened to it with a distanced attitude and left with a sinking feeling in my stomach. Memories and all of that. I don’t feel like spending any more money (that concert cost an arm and a leg) to feel bad when I leave. So, nix more Queen for me (although they do deliver).

Def Leppard just basically released the most disappointing (and boring) stuff (that last album isn’t even a shadow of what they used to be like) and they’re off my list … for good. Sad, but …

Kiss and Judas Priest would probably instantly turn me into a teenager again. I do believe that a gig like that could actually turn back the clock and make some of those wrinkles in my face disappear … for good. I’d be all over THAT tour.

    Cheers!

P.S.: I wasn’t here to comment on your Kiss appreciation guest post over on Mark’s site, but what you wrote reminded me of the time when I got “Rock And Roll Over” and learned how to draw the Gene Simmons mask … which we drew all over school desks, subway carriages and bus seats. I loved that album to death and I still regularly spin that one and Double Platinum with Cold Gin and Strutter (which we played in the band and I loved playing on my Ludwig Vistalite drum kit). I still have great memories from that time, although we probably sucked at playing the stuff. But we thought it was stellar (and that Ludwig set just kicked ass and definitely gave more head).

Yeah, I’m Kiss Army, definitely, although not an active member per se.

  2. Hey thanx for stopping by my blog. And thanx for the comments. Manowar is a great band, but you’re right, just ignore the cheesiness and we’re all happy. As far as Lordi goes, just imagine Gwar playing Bon Jovi tunes. The songs I’ll admit are catchy, but not metal or original. Do yourself a favour and check out their videos on Youtube.com , they are funny as hell! Thanx again for stopping by, and I think I’ll swinging by here frequently for updates on bands. Good job!

  3. Volkher – Welcome back!

Queen + Paul Rodgers do work well togther, the tour was very good. I would be interested in hearing studio work in the future. It isn’t the real Queen, Freddie could never be replaced, it’s more of a Queen celebration. It’s a good vibe.

If KISS & Priest were to tour, I would take vacation and follow it. Who would headline. Most likely KISS but the Priest would really give them a hard run in the 2nd slot. That is a dream tour.

Rock’n’Roll Over is my favorite album of all time. I used to draw the KISS logo everywhere. Once a member of the KISS Army, always a member…..memories are hard to erase.

  4. DPTH – I’ve been visiting your site on a regular basis but I just haven’t commented.

Sounds like I wouldn’t dig Lordi but the image is cool. As far as Manowar, a great band that is just a little OTT when it comes to “defending Metal”. I admit to be one of the followers but I have perspective, LOL! Some of the fans in Europe and South America take Manowar extremely seriously.

  5. I’m surprised that Queen and KISS would our together. I like them both, but they are different styles of music. I wonder if they’s take turns opening the show? Either way, I’d probably go if it happened.

  6. KISS AND QUEEN+PAUL RODGERS MAKES A KICK ASS MATCH! JUST THINK OF WAT WILL HAPPEN. ROCK N ROLL ALL NITE MEETS WE WILL ROCK YOU, DETROIT ROCK CITY MEETS WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. BUT I THINK THEY SHOULD GO ON TOUR WIT QUEEN IT WOULD BE COOL!

  7. Vincent – Sad to say its NOT happening. Paul Stanley confirmed it, so did Eric Singer (who is good friends with Brian May BTW). Too bad because I think it would be a great tour but ticket prices would have hit the roof.

  8. THIS WOULD BE AN AWSOME CONCERT I SAW QUEEN IN MARCH AT THE PALACE WITH PAUL RODGERS AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THE GREATEST!!! BUT IF THEY COME TO MICHIGAN IM HAPPY BUT IF THEY DON’T COME ANY WHERE NEAR MICHIGAN THE TOUR REALLY MEANS NOTHING TO ME EVEN THOUGH QUEEN IS MY FAVORITE BAND…

  9. ok… If Gene Said It.. its probably true.. why? Gene Simmons doesnt needs to lie to be on the tabloids.. Gene Simmons likes to be the center of attencion fucking or doing cool stuff, but not lying.

About what paul said… he’s in tour now.. and what would you prefer? see LIVE TO WIN or KISS + QUEEN??

  10. Please come to portland I’m 47 and want to see you again I have seen you six times with the original band now I want to seeyou with your current group rock on.
