New official Dream Theater bootlegs released

Posted: April 24, 2006 in Metal News & Commentary

Dream Theater is a band that understands what it’s fans want and is willing to change things up a bit. Not content to play a cover song live, the band opts for doing a WHOLE ALBUM! I have the Number Of The Beast and Master Of Puppets live covers and they are excellent. This is official product, Dream Theater doing things the proper way, and extremely professional. What else would you expect from this band. Here’s the email I got…..

  1. Now, I don’t want to tread dangerous waters, but, err, Dream Theater? Sorry, but in my eyes that’s the most lifeless music I have in my collection, and I have some. If I add my dislike of Rush here, I’d probably get crucified by some readers. So I won’t. ;)

I have several Dream Theater CDs and DVDs and they tell me … nothing. Technically brilliant, fantastic, sometimes out of this world … musically … empty. The same goes for Rush and that irritating drummer of their’s who is technicaly brilliant, but … you know what I mean.

I’ve seen Peart and Portnoy live many times, often also in drum clinics all over the place and every time my pulse starts pounding and my veins start popping out, waiting for some passion to show up, but, alas … it has never happened. Being a drummer myself I maybe look at things differently, but when I see Peart going through the motions, I get angry. The last time I watched him I was looking out for any sort of emotional response to what he was doing. Nada. Zilch. He looked like he was sitting on the can waiting for something to happen.

Sorry, but’s the way I see it.

In summary: I’ve fought some battles against DF and Rush on some boards and came away with a bloody nose (both of these bands have a very strong and vocal following).

I hope my extremeties are safe here.

    :)

That Dream Theater pleases its fans with decent releases is another matter entirely. There are too many bands out there who don’t – or who leave the running of affairs the mindless suits thirteen floors up.

    So, they should be commended.

P.S.: Should I let the storm blow over, or is it OK if I return tomorrow? ;)

  2. An edit function would help me avoid stupid typos or allow me to add words I simply forgot to type. *blsuh* err … *blush*

Cool site. I’m a longtime metal head. Thanks for stopping by my blog, BTW.
