I took a short break from the Web this weekend (except for Ebay!) and I devoted this weekend to right the sinking ship that was my beloved New England Patriots in year 10 of “franchise mode” in Madden 06 for PS2. Of course, you can’t play video games (and hide from your family!) with out a stack of CDs at the ready…..
1. Alcatrazz – No Parole From Rock’n’Roll (1983)
By far, one of the lost gems of the early 1980s. Featuring Graham Bonnet on vocals and Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar, Alcatrazz created one of the classiest debuts among U.S. Hard Rock acts. The album is solid from start to finish, standout cuts: Island In The Sun, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Too Young To Die, Too Drunk To Live, Kree Nakoorie.
2. Triumph – Live At The US Festival (2003)
Capturing the band at their best during their performance at the legendary US Festival in 1983. All the hits are here, an excellent live album. Get the DVD too.
3. Manilla Thrills – Tomorrow’s Waiting (2006)
This CD is a remastered special collector’s edition, from Retrospect Records, of songs taken from 1988-1990. This has never been available on CD and includes 4 bonus tracks. This is one of Retrospect’s better releases all around, props to the label. The music herein is Melodic Hard Rock/80s Metal sure to please fans of the era. I just started listening to this one and I like what I hear.
4. Edguy – Rocket Ride (2006)
POWER METAL!!! Had this since last Tuesday and only managed a couple of spins…..
5. The Police – Synchronicity (1983)
Classic album from a classic band. A radio and MTV staple. This and Night Ranger’s Midnight Madness were the soundtracks of my life at age 11 in ’83.
